Project: Strengthening rural community organization and livelihood

to advance resilience in southern Belize

(SOLAR Southern Belize)


Overview

 

The project will help improve economic and social development by increasing the access to and use of renewable energy in the Toledo District, Belize.

The participating villages are Mabilha, San Lucas, and Otoxha.


Key activities and deliverables

Project beneficiaries will increase access and use of renewable energy via the installation of solar units in their households, community buildings, businesses and schools.


Project beneficiaries will enhance community economic development by increasing their knowledge and experience on community organization and building community resilience, small business and entrepreneurship management, business plans, marketing, and sustainability.

Reach the general population with messaging about renewable energy, gender empowerment, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), among other topics via community actions and HPPBZ’s social media platforms.

During project implementation, HPPBZ will seek to collaborate with representatives from:

  • Ministry of Public Utilities and Logistics, through the Energy Unit
  • Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government
  • Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology
  • Village and alcalde councils 
  • Non-governmental organizations
  • Local organizations
  • Youth groups
  • Among others
